this anti-sj narrative of pretending that marginalized people will call the most ridiculous things oppression is firmly rooted in the idea that these marginalized people are illogical and should be silenced. period. it’s rooted in the idea that we’re constantly exaggerating, that we’re unable to adequately assess our own life experiences, or that we’re far too sensitive.
and anti-sj folks don’t see this as a problem. they don’t even want to entertain the fact that we may be right, that we may have a point, that they may be doing something wrong. they don’t want to even consider the possibility that maybe, JUST MAYBE, we may be experts on our own marginalization and oppression, that maybe we know more than they do about our own lives.
because then they have to examine the way that they treat us and actually pretend to be decent people for once in their lives.
